This is a snip of a hex format file, from a ".img" file (not a photo) from a HHD I have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

Is this snip from the start of the file in a hex editor? 55AA is the signature of a big endian MBR (though the signature shouldn't be at the start). Other than that its quite likely you cannot answer your question -- esp if the data is encrypted and doesn't have some header code indicating the encryption type. – dr jimbob Apr 26 '12 at 2:40
Dr. Jimbob's response makes me think it's a hard drive or floppy drive image, mount it (and get viruses). – StrangeWill Apr 26 '12 at 17:28
Do you know if it is actually encrypted? – CodesInChaos Apr 26 '12 at 19:52

Data encrypted with a modern cipher is indecipherable from noise.

This would have been made in the early to mid 90's if thats any help. – Darren Apr 26 '12 at 16:28
@Darren nope not in the slightest. Maybe if it was classical cryptography in the 1890's you'd have a chance. – Rook Apr 26 '12 at 16:32
Oh good god, mount it and get a virus. WTH are you on crack? This is a part of a file that runs a game system. The reason I asked is every " game" starts out with 55 AA in the first part of the file, thinking that may give a hint as to what encryption was used. Yes they are Encrypted. I know 100% that they are. But as someone said not likely to be able to help, so, I thank you all and I will move on. – Darren Apr 29 '12 at 15:14
55 AA, OMG I missed that, that makes sense as the game has to know when a new game pack in inserted..... – Darren Apr 29 '12 at 15:23
