IT Security Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for IT security professionals. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am specifically looking for 'books to read' and 'blogs and forums to follow' in the interest of knowming more about preserving and maintaining anonymity and privacy in online world. Not so much on the ideological aspect of it but more on how it is being done, using tools and knowledge, all over the world.

Thanks.

Use TOR to stay anonymous. Use TOR to anonymously connect to a VPN and you are pretty air-tight.

Here is a pretty good slideshow about staying anonymous and what you need to know to remain anonymous on the internet. http://www.slideshare.net/grugq/opsec-for-hackers

There are plenty of pitfalls with such an approach. You can achieve decent anonymity(state level attackers are still an issue) with TOR if you're really careful. But it's really easy to slip up, so I certainly wouldn't use the word "air-tight". – CodesInChaos Dec 25 '12 at 19:11
If used correctly it's about as good as you can do. There are setups a person can use to reduce making mistakes. – Rell3oT Dec 25 '12 at 19:16
