comment HeartBleed and Closed Source Hardware like Cisco
Disable the SSL features until you've patched the device. Obviously, Cisco has good technologies that are hard to replace with open source counter parts (such as their switches). If you could replace any of your in-house Cisco technologies with an open source alternative then I would do that; especially if it means using pfSense.

comment fail2ban and iptables
Fail2ban is not a firewall manager. As a matter of fact you cannot even remove banned IP's using fail2ban. So, you'll want to set your iptables configuration separate to that of fail2ban. And use fail2ban for what it was is meant to be used for; banning brute-force logon attempts.
