comment Ensure that a file can only be decrypted after a specific date
So you suggest creating a new altcoin (in an already crowded market) just to timeshift a file release? Even if it catches on, if your file is valuable it will be decrypted earlier than you intended. Those mining the coin would start at the first block and work forwards, while anyone wanting the file would start at the last block and work backwards, only doing the work to crack the keys, not waiting 10 minutes between each one, and not necessarily publishing their results. When the two groups "met" the cracker(s) would have your file.

comment How secure are virtual machines really? False sense of security?
"to have four VM's, you'd need four harddrives hanging off four disk controllers, four [etc...]" That sounds like it's missing the point of virtual machines.

comment Wine or sandboxie as sandboxes
@jojo modjo what do you mean? Under a modern operating system each process's memory is isolated anyway. The last version of Windows lacking proper memory protection was Windows ME.

comment Why would someone trust DuckDuckGo or other providers with a similar privacy policy?
Your reliance on legal incentives seems to assume the site or owner are located in the US. I never feel very trusting of a site when whois tells me Registrant Contact: WhoisGuard Protected.

comment Definition of Software Security
"Functions correctly" is way too narrow. Windows 95 could have all the bugs removed and still not be secure.

The phone hasn't misbehaved in a suspicious way so far. See question update. And I'm not someone who they would bother to deliberately target :)
