It's not yet quite clear how well the affected sites were patched, or if some were happy with false negative scans too soon or simply didn't bother to patch anything due to them as yet. Also, the question, while I expect it to be soon closed as a duplicate of the one marked in the comment below it, is specifically asking about Gmail and Twitter, and you don't address security of these two services and if they were affected by the Heartbleed bug at all.

I find Google's explanation a bit clearer. I believe that in this case ditto, or a ditto mark, often —"— could have also been used. Tho it could then be confused with an emoticon, so it's probably best that it wasn't. :)
