comment Does the heartbleed vulnerability affect clients as severely?
please bear in mind that at least redhat's fix is backported to 'e', so its no longer quite true that f(inclusive) is vulnerable

Generally, don't trust the contents of any email that's not cryptographically signed. There's lots of things you can do to improve the default situation, but email is generally pretty bad at security. If you get a message from paypal, goto paypal and check it's correct. - and don't use the links on the email in-case its from a scammer and for some reason slipped the net.

comment Using RFID-only on door lock to house?
for what it's worth, it's my understanding that the point of entry is usually a window, so I wouldn't expect this to help much.

note that you can store your own aes key on a yubikey, validate against your own key server, and combine it with openid, if needed. Also, the aes key is not shared with other sites.

comment Is it safe to attach a potentially malicious hard drive to a Solaris machine?
+1 for "malicious harddrive". I really hope this is a harddrive with teeth that slowly eats the contents of your pc case.

comment 2 factor authentication - cost effective solution for a web startup
I use a yubikey. If availability of a USB port to end users isn't an issue, its a very nice 2 factor option. I'd recommend them to people for use in such an environment, perhaps not if you want to use ipads or other crippled devices.
