Is there a standard for printing a public key as a barcode? Why not print a link to a short url (e.g bitly) to where you keep your key? Then you have eliminated the need for the recipient to have compatible barcode reading software. The url could even include the key. |

Techniques for Writing Encryption Algorithms (Exclusively For Personal Use) If you start a random number generator at a known seed and do the ROT based on a new psuedorandom number for each character, you can later decode the string by starting the random number generator by the same seed and reversing the process. The weakness is that if you try all the seeds, you can eventually find which one works. Once you have got it working you can try and make it more difficult to decrypt. The important lessons is: how long would it take decrypt it if you have the source? |

Why are hand-written signatures still so commonly used? In Japan signatures are rarely used. Instead, every adult has multiple seal/stamps (hanko) which are used to stamp documents in the same way as a signature is used. Someone possessing your seal can stamp your name as your proxy. Stamps that were used for important transactions like buying a house or getting married are usually locked away in a secure place. Local governments have a register of seals & issue certificates of authenticity. They keep an image of the registered seal electronically and can verify whether a seal is the same one that was registered at another location in the country. |

Why are hand-written signatures still so commonly used? This is definitely on topic as far as I am concerned. |
