I am a proud Ubuntu user. I switched over when the release of Windows 7 rendered my computer obsolete. I have been using Ubuntu ever since. I used Windows 7 on my new computer for several weeks before Windows Update replaced the ATI graphics drivers, causing my computer not be able to boot anymore. Frustrated, I have switched back to Ubuntu. I also, somewhat hypocritically, am a proud owner of a Microsoft Zune HD.

I like to play with compiz to make my computer look pretty, currently having wobbly windows and window border transparency. I am working on using the fire plugin to make my windows go up in flames when closed. I saw this in a YouTube video and have been jealous ever since. Transparent menus are another great addition. I have experimented with VB6 (both Mono and Microsoft) and have been recently been experimenting with blender, which is complicated yet fun.

At the risk of stating the obvious, confiscate the livecd and put blank cds in a locked cabinet. If he makes a USB install or finds some other way around it, sit down and talk with the kid. Pull the "I'm dissapointed in you" card.
