comment What is the easiest way to search massive, leaked databases for persons and personal information?
I know that grep can search binary files. I meant that this assumes the content you were searching for within the file is in a plain text format and therefore searchable. I'm still not convinced that's a valid assumption.

This assumes the database dump is in plain text which is unlikely to be a valid assumption.

Thanks for that. It was the version mismatch that confused me and I didn't know if I had somehow generated an invalid trace. The interoperability rationale you gave here makes perfect sense.

comment I found that the company I work for is putting a backdoor into mobile phones
It's unrealistic to assume that everyone in a large company thinks in the same way, so one person saying "But we're not going to use it" doesn't mean much unless it is backed by explicit policy and repercussions against those who use it. Unlikely to happen if the powers that be are happy to even have it exist.
