comment Isolate part of my PC to keep security for online purchases?
If the host machine is compromised and logging keystrokes, it will log everything before it gets to the VM. You have gained nothing by creating a clean VM inside the compromised machine.

comment How does SSL/TLS PKI work?
Do you actually have 1 question you wanted to ask, or are you just fishing for someone to put together all the answers you already have, into one big article?

comment If I know a currently working exploit to spoof SMS on a major carrier, what should I do?
Are you under the impression that either a carrier or the FCC is going to be unaware of the ability to send spoofed spam via SMS? Is there some goal you hope to accomplish? The worldwide conversion of all carriers from SMS to some new set of protocols that enforce authentication?

comment Penetration testing against an ignorant target - Is it legal?
I would say that insecurely storing private data for thousands of students is discourteous and unworthy of a professional. =p

comment is there any program that can tell me which files have been transferred from my computer thru the web
Any file-stealing virus worth it's salt would use an encrypted channel to transfer files. You could assume, based on the amount of data being uploaded, that a file is being transferred, but will likely be no way to know which file, from the network side. You could monitor and track file access locally, but if your machine is compromised with a virus, they likely would hide any forensic evidence.
