If your cookie generation algorithm tends to generate redundant cookies and you accept this, it seems to me that your problem lies more here than in this useless device column. Ensure that you use proper random number generator and size for you cookies, and ensure their uniqueness before using them. Two different sessions should never share the same session cookie, by definition!

@NeilSmithline Actually I'm referring to solution #1. And I myself added device column to be able detect redundant rows.
