If your customers' credit card info gets stolen from your servers, or intercepted through a MitM-attack, you could even be brought to civil court. Protecting your customers is a must for companies today. Also, SSL is very cheap (or even free) these days, so there's really no reason not to offer it. (I'm not affiliated with OpenSSL btw.)
