I have an iMac on the same network as my Windows desktop. Both are on the local network at my university.

I am sharing a folder on the iMac using the built-in sharing utility (via SMB) with everyone set to no access and my account set to Read & Write. I also have the Windows File Sharing option enabled for my user.

On the Windows desktop, I connect to the system using the network name set ([iMac name].local) and with the credentials of my iMac's account.

My question is, using the SMB sharing function through macOS, are the credentials used to access the shared folder and any data (such as reading/writing the shared folder's contents) encrypted and not sent over in plain text. I would like to make sure since this includes the password and data to my iMac.
