aireplay-ng -9 wlan0 and it seems that my intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN adapter does not support injection. i use Ubuntu 10.10 64bit (2.6.35-25-generic kernel).
is it possible to make the adapter have injection capability? if yes, how?
Try using Backtrack or Blackbuntu. Those two distribution have better driver support for packet injection. Some wireless cards need specially modified drivers. Once you figure out which one you need you can install it in Ubuntu. Backtrack and Blackbuntu are worth using for that purpose though.
Also it is worth noting that you MAY have better luck using a 32-bit OS, Backtrack for one is only 32-bit because most drivers and tools work better. I can't vouch for there being any issues with using a 64-bit OS though.
Good luck in your Penetration Testing. (I hope that's what your purpose is)
On a brand new install I did this:
first switch to root:
make it look like this:
#options iwlagn 11n_disable=1
options iwlagn 11n_disable=1 swcrypto=1
Reboot and or in a terminal do something like the following
root@main:/home/bildr# modprobe -r iwlagn root@main:/home/bildr# modprobe iwlagn root@main:/home/bildr# killall nm-applet root@main:/home/bildr# airmon-ng start wlan0 Found 4 processes that could cause trouble. If airodump-ng, aireplay-ng or airtun-ng stops working after a short period of time, you may want to kill (some of) them! I really can't remember if I ever got it to work on my ASUS X5AVN with Intel 5100 wireless network card. But I remember that I succesfully cracked a couple of test networks, but I used a USB dongle which supported Injection and Monitoring mode. I didnt do it the sufficient way, I used two laptops, my main laptop with the 5100 wireless and another laptop with backtrack and the USB dongle. My brother has my dongle at the moment, so I can not recall what name it is, but it supports bigger antennas.
I can recommend this site to find compatible cards for injection and monitoring mode.
I have a little "bonus" info for you if you get it up and running, a person called G0tm1lk created a nice script for automatisation. I recommend you learn aircrack-ng before you use this script.
