the context is this introduction in an HP whitepaper. I'm inquiring about "platform-ownership" within the Secure-Boot environment.

I'm looking for a simplified summary of platform-ownership. Much of the material I've encountered is a little abstruse and lengthy.

  1. What is a basic explanation of platform-ownership?
  2. What are the advantages of platform-ownership for an individual?
  3. Are there disadvantages beyond inconvenience and difficulty in initial setup?

I know that, if one forgets a BIOS-created boot-password, HP can help to reset the BIOS for the user. I'm supposing that taking ownership of the platform would remove HP's ability to do this, but I'm not sure. I'm sure there's more to it than this.

Thanks very much.
