Yesterday, I was playing a counterstrike game on FACEIT, when all of sudden one of my teammates started bullying me for my bad plays. It was standard trash-talking for a bit, but then all of a sudden, he read out my full name in voice chat and mocked me for my non-white real name. Racism aside, I'm mostly concerned how he was able to pull up my full name in the first place. In the past I made a solid effort to avoid any ties from my gaming accounts to my real identity to protect my privacy. But somehow he was able to get a hold of my name.

Can you please tell me how was he able to find my full real name based on my Steam or FACEIT Profile. If you could tell me how he was able to do it, I would be so grateful.

  • I think the most likely scenario here is that unluckily it was someone you knew, and they just taunted you. That would be my guess. Are you sure you don’t know them in real life? Commented Jul 10 at 20:12
  • Wait… do you have any other accounts (eg, Facebook, Insta) that include your real name and link your gaming accounts? Commented Jul 10 at 20:16
  • Weird question: are your initials S.P.? Don’t get freaked out if they are. Commented Jul 10 at 20:18

I googled your username and a pinterest account was the top hit ...

  • @schroeder that is the very account I found, too. With the initials SP. Commented Jul 10 at 22:43

There are various "username search engines" out there that try to find matching information from multiple sites. This allows anyone to quickly combine scattered information into a profile (a technique known as OSINT, open-source intelligence).

Assuming you're reusing your username on multiple sites, this tool finds a chess.com profile with the same username as your Steam account. The profile has a real name associated with it.

Sorry you got bullied- but there’s nothing to worry about. I literally Googled just your Steam name, and the third result that came up was a Pinterest account that had your real name and your gamer name together. So I guess this bully’s only skill was using the internet!

This also matched the Chess.com name in the above answer.
